Remember in the old days when there was only one or two NHL games on TV every week instead of 20 every night! Remember when you’d slurp milk from your cereal bowl and it would spill all over the sports section of the newspaper and your dad would yell at you for ruining his newspaper! Remember when you’d sneak a transistor radio into bed and hide it under your pillow to listen to the end of the game past your bedtime on a school night? If any of these spur childhood memories for you, then you’d love hanging out with Ken Reid from Sportsnet. He is one of my favourite anchors because he remembers to inject humour and passion into the game beyond the business and the politics that professional sports has turned into! Watch as Ken and I take the wrapper off a recently discovered 1974-75 OPC hockey pack, and see what’s inside! I won’t give anything away, but if this was a scratch lottery ticket or a slot machine in Las Vegas, we’d be on the winning end! Ken Reid might have had an unscheduled visit to the dentist later that day, after sampling a piece of the gum inside! We all remember the great taste and smell of that gum inside packages of hockey cards but unlike fine wine, a 43 year old slab of what was once pink, does not age well!
