Signed Wayne Gretzky photo 16 years old wearing #14

In 1977 the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds picked A 16-year-old kid named Wayne Gretzky in the third round of the Ontario midget draft. When he made the team Gretzky requested to wear number 9 like his idol Gordie Howe. That number was taken so instead he chose #14. His coach Muzz McPherson quickly realized he had a special player on his hands and suggested wearing “two” 9’s was better than one! From that season on, Gretzky always wore the legendary #99! By the way, in 63 games that year he set the Greyhounds all-time record scoring 70 goals and the 112 assists for a total of 182 points. Vancouver’s Best Buyer of vintage sports cards and memorabilia.
